No, TikTok doesn't notify anyone when you take a screenshot. That goes for videos, profiles, comments, LIVEs and direct messages, and for screen recordings too. Unlike Snapchat, TikTok has no screenshot alert at the time of writing. What TikTok *can* show other people is a different set of things: profile visits and video views (if you both turn those features on), likes, comments, shares and reposts.

## Screenshots on TikTok at a glance

| What you screenshot or record | Does the other person get notified? |
| --- | --- |
| A video in your feed | No |
| Someone's profile | No |
| Comments | No |
| A LIVE | No |
| A direct message chat | No |
| A screen recording of any of the above | No |

You may see a **Share** prompt pop up after you take a screenshot of a video. That's TikTok suggesting you share the link; it's only shown to you.

## Why people think TikTok notifies screenshots

- **Snapchat does.** Many people assume other apps work the same way.
- **Viral videos claim it.** "TikTok now tells creators when you screenshot" videos come up regularly; they're engagement bait.
- **Third-party apps claim it.** Apps that say they can detect screenshots of your TikToks can't see what happens on other people's phones. Don't give them your login.

## What TikTok does show other people

| Action | Who can see it |
| --- | --- |
| Visiting a profile | The owner, if you both have **Profile view history** on. See [how to turn off profile views](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-profile-views-on-tiktok) |
| Watching a video | The creator, only if you both have **Post view history** on |
| Liking a video | The creator, and anyone who can see your Liked tab if it's public |
| Commenting, sharing or reposting | The creator, and often your followers |

## Is it OK to screenshot someone's TikTok?

Taking a screenshot for your own reference is common and isn't flagged. Reposting it is different: other people's videos, photos and words are their work. If you want to show someone else a TikTok, use **Share** to send the link, or use TikTok's **Repost** button. For using another creator's video in your own content, ask first and credit them.

If you're a creator worried about people screenshotting your posts, the only real control is who sees them. You can make your account private, limit who can comment or message you, and set individual videos to **Friends** or **Only me**.

## Scheduling and privacy

If you post on TikTok for a brand or as a creator, you can pick the audience for each post ahead of time. Schedule For You lets you schedule TikTok videos and photo posts with a privacy setting per post (public, friends or only me), so a draft can go live privately for a final check.
