Category: TikTok.

To delete a TikTok video, open your profile, tap the video, tap the **three dots** (or the **…** menu) and choose **Delete**, then confirm. The video, its views, likes and comments are removed for good. If you only want it off your profile, set it to **Only me** instead: it disappears for everyone else but you keep it, along with its stats, and can make it public again later.

TikTok moves menus between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your phone.

## How to delete a TikTok post on your phone

1. Open TikTok and tap **Profile** in the bottom right.
2. Tap the video or photo post you want to remove.
3. Tap the **three dots** on the right side of the screen (on some versions, the menu is under the share arrow).
4. Scroll the row of options and tap **Delete** (the trash can icon).
5. Tap **Delete** again to confirm.

The post is gone from your profile, the For You feed and anywhere it was shared or reposted. Duets and stitches other people made from it may stay up, since those are their posts.

## How to delete a TikTok video on a computer

1. Go to tiktok.com and sign in.
2. Open your profile and click the video.
3. Click the **…** menu next to the caption.
4. Click **Delete** and confirm.

## How to unpost a TikTok without deleting it

"Unposting" isn't a TikTok button; people usually mean hiding a video. Making it private is safer than deleting because you can undo it.

1. Open the video and tap the **three dots**.
2. Tap **Privacy settings**.
3. Under **Who can watch this video**, choose **Only me**.

| Option | Who can see it | Keeps views and comments | Can you undo it? |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Delete | No one | No | No |
| Only me | Just you | Yes | Yes, switch back to Everyone |
| Friends | Followers you follow back | Yes | Yes |

TikTok also lets you change privacy for many videos at once from the activity tools in settings on some versions; there's no "delete all" button at the time of writing.

## Deleting a post you just uploaded

If you spot a typo right after posting, some versions of the app offer **Delete and re-edit** for recent uploads, which removes the post and sends the video back to the editor. Your caption and edits may not all carry over, so copy the caption first.

## Will deleting and reposting help views?

Usually not. Deleting removes whatever momentum the video had, and a reposted copy starts from zero. If a video stalls, check [why your TikTok isn't getting views](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/why-is-my-tiktok-not-getting-views) before deleting anything. Mass-deleting old videos also doesn't "reset" your account.

## How to avoid deleting later

Most deletes come from typos, the wrong cover or the wrong time. A few habits help:

- **Check the caption before it goes live.** TikTok captions can run to 4,000 characters, and long ones hide mistakes. Our guide to the [TikTok caption limit](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/tiktok-caption-character-limit) covers what shows before "more."
- **Post privately first.** Schedule For You can publish a TikTok as **Only me**, so you can check the post on your profile and switch it to public in TikTok when you're happy.
- **Fix it before it's published.** A scheduled post in Schedule For You can be edited or removed from the queue any time before it goes out, which beats deleting a live post. See the [TikTok scheduler](https://scheduleforyou.com/tiktok) for what's supported.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I recover a deleted TikTok video?
Not from TikTok's normal menus. Once deleted, the post and its stats are gone. If you saved the original file or a draft, you can post it again as a new video. Check [how to see TikTok drafts](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-see-tiktok-drafts) for unposted versions.

### Does deleting a TikTok notify anyone?
No. Followers aren't told. They'll just find the video missing.

### Why can't I delete a TikTok video?
The usual causes are a weak connection, an old app version or a video that's still processing. Update the app, wait a few minutes and try again. You can only delete your own videos.

### Does deleting a TikTok remove reposts and shares?
Yes, reposts and shared links stop working. Duets and stitches that other people made may remain on their accounts.
