# How to Delete a YouTube Channel Permanently (or Hide It Instead)

To delete a YouTube channel, open **YouTube Studio** while signed in to that channel, go to **Settings**, then **Channel**, then **Advanced settings**, and click **Remove YouTube content** at the bottom. After you sign in again, choose **I want to permanently delete my content**, tick the boxes and confirm. Deletion removes the channel's videos, comments, playlists and history and can't be undone. If you only want it gone for now, choose **I want to hide my channel** instead.

You can only delete channels you own or manage as an owner. Here's the full process, including Brand Account channels and phones.

## How to delete a YouTube channel on desktop

1. Go to [studio.youtube.com](https://studio.youtube.com) and make sure the channel you want to delete is selected (profile picture, then **Switch account**).
2. Click **Settings** at the bottom left.
3. Click **Channel**, then **Advanced settings**.
4. Click **Remove YouTube content** at the bottom.
5. Sign in again to confirm it's you.
6. Choose **I want to permanently delete my content**.
7. Tick the boxes to confirm what will be deleted.
8. Click **Delete my content** and confirm with your channel's name or email if asked.

It can take a while for videos and thumbnails to disappear everywhere. Menu labels change from time to time, so look for "Remove YouTube content" if a step is named differently.

## How to delete a YouTube channel on your phone

The YouTube app doesn't offer channel deletion. In a mobile browser, open studio.youtube.com, switch to desktop mode if needed, and follow the steps above. Alternatively, go to myaccount.google.com, open **Data & privacy**, then **Delete a Google service**, and choose YouTube.

## Deleting a Brand Account channel

Many business channels belong to a Brand Account, which can have several managers. Only the **primary owner** can delete it. Switch to the Brand Account channel first, then follow the same steps. If you want to remove the whole Brand Account, do it from the Brand Account's Google Account settings. A manager without owner rights needs the owner to do it, or to be promoted.

## Before you delete: save what you need

- **Download your videos.** Use **Google Takeout** (takeout.google.com) and pick YouTube for a copy of your uploads, playlists and channel data.
- **Check monetization.** If the channel is in the YouTube Partner Program, make sure your last AdSense payment has cleared.
- **Remove it from tools.** Disconnect the channel from apps that post to it, such as schedulers, so they stop trying to publish. In Schedule For You, remove it from the Accounts screen.
- **Check memberships and subscriptions.** Paid subscriptions like YouTube Premium belong to the Google account; the deletion screen may offer to cancel them.

## If you just want a fresh start

Deleting erases the subscribers and watch history you built.
