To download a TikTok video, open it, tap the **Share** arrow and choose **Save video**. The video goes to your phone's camera roll (Photos on iPhone, Gallery on Android) with TikTok's watermark and the creator's username on it. If there's no Save video button, the creator has turned downloads off. Your **own** videos are easier: you can save them from your profile at any time, and save a clean copy without the watermark when you post.

Here's how it works on each device, how to keep your own originals, and what's fair to do with other people's videos.

## Download options at a glance

| What you want | How | Watermark? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Someone else's TikTok, to watch later | Share > Save video | Yes |
| Someone else's TikTok, without saving a file | Tap the bookmark (Favorites) | No file |
| Your own posted video | Profile > video > ... > Save video | Yes, in most versions |
| Your own video, clean copy | Turn on **Save to device** when posting, or keep your original edit | No |
| All your videos | Settings > Account > Download your data | Depends on the export |
| A video with downloads turned off | Ask the creator for the file | Their choice |

Labels change between app versions; the options have stayed similar for years.

## How to download TikTok videos on iPhone

1. Open the video in the TikTok app.
2. Tap the **Share** arrow on the right.
3. Tap **Save video**. Wait for the progress circle to finish.
4. Open **Photos**; the video is in Recents.

The first time, iOS asks for permission to add to Photos. If saving fails, go to **iPhone Settings > TikTok > Photos** and set it to **Add Photos Only** or **Full Access**. You can also use **Live Photo** in the share menu to save a TikTok as a Live Photo for a wallpaper.

## How to download TikTok videos on Android

The steps are the same: **Share > Save video**. The file lands in your Gallery or in the **Movies/TikTok** or **DCIM** folder, depending on your phone. If it fails, check that TikTok has storage or media permission in Android settings.

## How to download TikTok videos on a computer

On tiktok.com, open a video, then right-click it or open the **...** menu and look for **Download video**. It appears only when the creator allows downloads, and the file carries the watermark.

## How to save your own TikToks without a watermark

- **Keep your original.** If you edit in CapCut or your phone's editor, export the final file before you upload. That's your clean master.
- **Save while posting.** On the post screen, open **More options** and turn on **Save to device** (some versions also offer saving without the watermark). TikTok saves a copy of exactly what you posted.
- **Download your data.** In **Settings and privacy > Account > Download your data**, you can request an export of your account, which includes your videos.

Watermark remover websites ask you to paste a link, and many are packed with ads or ask for your login. Don't give them your TikTok password, and don't use them to strip creator credit from someone else's video.

## Is it okay to download other people's TikToks?

Saving a video to watch offline or send to a friend is what the Save button is for. Reposting someone else's video as your own, cropping out the watermark or using it in an ad is a different matter: the creator owns the copyright, and platforms remove reposted content and can penalize the account. To share a video with your followers, use TikTok's **Repost** button or **Stitch**, or ask the creator for permission and credit them. Our guide on [how to repost on TikTok](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-repost-on-tiktok) covers the in-app way.

## Want your videos on Reels and Shorts too?

The most common reason creators download their own TikToks is to post them again on Instagram and YouTube. That's where the clean original matters: Instagram and YouTube are less likely to recommend videos carrying another app's watermark. Upload the original file to Schedule For You once and publish it to TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts from the same draft, each with its own caption, so there's nothing to download afterward. Our guide on [how to cross-post to multiple platforms](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-cross-post-to-multiple-platforms) shows the workflow.

## Why can't I download a TikTok video?

- **The creator turned downloads off** (in Settings and privacy > Privacy > Downloads). There's no in-app way around it.
- **The video has licensed music** that TikTok doesn't allow to be saved in your region.
- **The account is private**, or the video was posted as Friends only.
- **TikTok lacks permission** to save to your photos or storage.
- **The video is too new** or still processing; try again in a few minutes.

## Frequently asked questions

Open the video, tap Share, then Save video. It appears in Photos. If it doesn't, allow TikTok to add photos in iPhone Settings.

Your own, yes: keep your original file or turn on Save to device when posting. Other people's videos carry the watermark so the creator stays credited.

### Does the creator know if I download their TikTok?
TikTok doesn't send a notification for a download, though creators can see the number of saves or shares in their analytics.
