There are two ways to link Instagram to Facebook, and they do different things. To link your **personal Facebook account**, open Instagram, go to **Accounts Center**, tap **Add accounts** and log in to Facebook. To connect Instagram to a **Facebook Page** (what businesses need for cross-posting, ads, the shared inbox and scheduling tools), open the Page on Facebook, go to **Settings**, then **Linked accounts**, choose **Instagram** and tap **Connect account**. Most businesses want the second one, or both.

Here's when you need each link, the steps, and fixes for when it won't connect.

## Which link do you need?

| You want to | Link |
| --- | --- |
| Share stories and posts to your Facebook profile automatically | Accounts Center (personal Facebook account) |
| Log in to Instagram with Facebook | Accounts Center |
| Run ads for your Instagram from Facebook or Ads Manager | Instagram professional account linked to a Facebook Page |
| Answer Instagram and Facebook messages in one inbox | Linked to a Page |
| Use a scheduler to publish to Instagram | Professional account linked to a Page |
| Cross-post Reels and posts to your Page | Linked to a Page |

## Link Instagram to your Facebook account (Accounts Center)

1. In Instagram, go to your profile and open the menu.
2. Tap **Accounts Center** (near the top of Settings and activity).
3. Tap **Add accounts**, then **Add Facebook account**.
4. Log in to Facebook and confirm.
5. Choose which features to use across both: shared login, story and post sharing, and so on.

An Accounts Center can hold only one Facebook account. Once linked, open **Accounts Center**, then **Sharing across profiles**, to turn automatic sharing of stories and posts on or off.

## Connect Instagram to a Facebook Page

Your Instagram account needs to be a **professional account** (Business or Creator), and you need full control of the Page. Our guide to [connecting a Facebook Page](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/connect-facebook-page) covers Page roles if you're not sure.

### From Facebook

1. On Facebook, switch into your Page (tap your profile picture, then the Page name).
2. Open **Settings** (on the Page, under the menu or the profile picture).
3. Go to **Linked accounts** (sometimes under **Permissions**).
4. Choose **Instagram**, then **Connect account**.
5. Log in to Instagram and approve the connection.

### From Instagram

1. Go to your profile and tap **Edit profile**.
2. Under **Public business information**, tap **Page** (or **Connect or create**).
3. Pick the Facebook Page to connect, or create a new one.

Meta moves these menus around often, so labels may differ slightly in your app.

## Why the Page link matters for scheduling

Meta's publishing tools treat Instagram professional accounts as linked to a Page. When you connect Instagram to Schedule For You, you log in with Meta, pick the Page, and the linked Instagram account comes with it. From there you can schedule feed posts, carousels, Reels and Stories, and add the Facebook Page to the same post so both go out together. The full walkthrough is in [how to connect Instagram to a scheduler](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/connect-instagram), and the [Instagram scheduler page](https://scheduleforyou.com/instagram) lists what's supported.

## Fixes when Instagram won't link to Facebook

- **"Account not eligible" or the Page doesn't appear.** Check that Instagram is a professional account and that your Facebook login has full control of the Page.
- **It links to the wrong Facebook account.** In Accounts Center, remove the account and add the right one. An Accounts Center can hold only one Facebook account.
- **The Page is already connected to another Instagram.** A Page links to one Instagram account. Disconnect the old one in the Page's Linked accounts first.
- **Login loops or errors.** Log out of both apps, update them, and try from a browser on a computer.
- **A scheduler can't see the account.** Remove the app in Facebook's Business Integrations settings and reconnect, approving every permission it asks for.

## How to unlink Instagram from Facebook

For the personal link, go to **Accounts Center**, tap **Accounts**, then **Remove** next to the account. For the Page link, open the Page's **Linked accounts**, choose **Instagram** and **Disconnect**. Disconnecting a Page stops ads and scheduling tools that rely on it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need a Facebook Page to use Instagram?
No. Instagram works on its own. A Page is only needed for some business features: ads run from Facebook, the shared inbox, and most scheduling tools.

### Will linking Instagram to Facebook post everything to both?
Only if you turn sharing on. In Accounts Center, under Sharing across profiles, you choose whether stories and posts share automatically.

### Can I link more than one Instagram account to a Facebook Page?
A Page connects to one Instagram account at a time. Businesses with several Instagram accounts usually give each its own Page.

### Can I link Instagram to Facebook without a professional account?
You can link a personal Instagram to your Facebook account in Accounts Center. Connecting to a Page requires a Business or Creator account.

### Why doesn't my Page show up when I try to link?
Usually because your Facebook login doesn't have full control of the Page. Ask an admin to give you full control, then try again.
