Yes, you can post on Instagram from desktop. Instagram's website has supported creating posts and Reels from a browser for several years, Meta Business Suite adds scheduling and Stories, and a scheduler lets you post from your computer to Instagram and your other accounts in one go. Which one to use depends on whether you want to publish right now, schedule, or post to several platforms.

## Option 1: Post from instagram.com in a browser

1. Go to instagram.com and sign in.
2. Click **Create** (the plus icon) in the left menu.
3. Drag in a photo or video, or click **Select from computer**.
4. Pick the crop (original, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9), then click **Next**.
5. Apply filters or adjustments if you want, then **Next** again.
6. Write the caption, add a location, alt text and collaborators, and click **Share**.

Several photos become a carousel; a video becomes a Reel. What you can't do from the website at the time of writing is add music the way the app does, or post a Story, though Instagram has tested Story creation on desktop.

**Best for:** publishing a single post right now, especially photos you edited on your computer.

## Option 2: Meta Business Suite

If your account is a professional (Business or Creator) account connected to a Facebook Page, Meta Business Suite at business.facebook.com can post and schedule to Instagram from desktop, and it can post Stories.

1. Open Business Suite and click **Create post** or **Create story**.
2. Choose Instagram (and the Facebook Page too if you want both).
3. Add media and the caption, and tailor the text per platform.
4. Click **Publish**, or open the arrow and choose **Schedule**.

**Best for:** brands that post to Instagram and Facebook only and need Stories from desktop.

## Option 3: A scheduler

A scheduler is the right choice when you plan posts ahead or post to more than two platforms. Everything happens in the browser on your computer: upload once, write once, tailor each platform's caption, pick times.

In Schedule For You:

1. Connect Instagram through Meta's login. The account must be a Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page, which our guide to [connecting Instagram](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/connect-instagram) walks through.
2. Click **New post**, drop in your photos (up to 10 for a carousel) or a video (published as a Reel).
3. Write the caption. The counter checks it against Instagram's 2,200-character limit as you type, and the [Instagram line break generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-line-break-generator) keeps paragraph breaks intact.
4. Select Instagram and any other accounts, tailor captions if needed, and schedule or **Add to queue**.

Instagram does not resize images for you, so size them first. The free [Instagram photo resizer](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-photo-resizer) outputs 1080×1350, 1080×1080 and 1080×566 versions in the browser. Stories can't be scheduled through Instagram's API, so for Stories use Business Suite or the app.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you post an Instagram Story from desktop?
From instagram.com, not at the time of writing. Meta Business Suite can post and schedule Stories for professional accounts. Schedulers that use Instagram's API, including Schedule For You, can publish Stories too, as a single image or video without stickers or music.

### Can you post on Instagram from a desktop without the app?
Yes. The website handles photos, carousels and Reels in any modern browser, and no app is needed.

### Does posting from desktop affect reach?
No. Instagram doesn't rank posts by the device they came from. Image quality matters more: upload at 1080 pixels wide so Instagram doesn't compress a larger file more than it needs to.

### Can I post to multiple Instagram accounts from desktop?
Yes with a scheduler. Schedule For You can connect several Instagram accounts and post to them from one composer; see [how to connect multiple Instagram accounts](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/connect-multiple-instagram-accounts).
