To see adult content on Bluesky, go to **Settings > Moderation**, switch on **Enable adult content**, then set each content filter (Adult, Suggestive, Graphic media, Non-sexual nudity) to **Show** or **Warn**. You need to be 18 or over. If the switch is missing or greyed out in the iPhone app, change it on [bsky.app](https://bsky.app) in a browser instead, then close and reopen the app so the setting syncs. In some places, including the UK and a few US states, Bluesky also asks you to verify your age first.

Here's the full walkthrough, what each option does, and what Bluesky actually allows.

## Turn on adult content step by step

1. Open Bluesky and go to **Settings**.
2. Tap **Moderation** (in some versions it's under **Privacy and security**, then **Moderation**).
3. Find **Content filters** and switch on **Enable adult content**.
4. Set each label to **Show**, **Warn** or **Hide**.
5. If you're on iPhone and the switch isn't there, sign in at bsky.app in Safari or any browser, make the change there, and restart the app.

Menu labels move between app versions, so the names above may differ slightly. The setting is saved to your account, so once it's set on the web it applies in the apps too.

## What Show, Warn and Hide mean

| Option | What you see |
| --- | --- |
| Show | Labeled posts appear normally, images unblurred |
| Warn | Labeled posts appear blurred behind a warning you can tap through |
| Hide | Labeled posts are filtered out of your feeds and search |

Bluesky's labels cover four kinds of content:

- **Adult:** sexual content.
- **Suggestive:** sexualized but not explicit.
- **Graphic media:** violence, gore or injury.
- **Non-sexual nudity:** art, medical or educational nudity.

You can set each one separately, so you could show art nudity, warn on suggestive posts and hide graphic media.

## Why the setting is missing or greyed out

- **App Store rules.** Apple doesn't let social apps switch on adult content from inside the iOS app, so Bluesky only offers the toggle on the web. Changing it at bsky.app is the fix.
- **Age.** Accounts registered as under 18 can't enable it.
- **Age verification.** Where local law requires age checks, Bluesky uses Epic Games' Kids Web Services to confirm age with a face scan, ID scan or payment card. At the time of writing that applies in the UK and some US states. Until you verify, adult content stays hidden and some features, such as DMs, may be limited.
- **Settings not synced.** If you changed it on the web and the app still blurs everything, sign out of the app and back in.

## How to see adult-labeled images

Images carry the label, not the whole post, so with **Warn** on you'll see a blurred image with a "Content warning" note. Tap it to reveal the image. With **Show**, it appears without the blur. If an image is still hidden after you've chosen Show, the account itself may carry a label, or a moderation service you subscribe to may be hiding it; check **Moderation > Advanced** for the labelers you use.

## Does Bluesky allow NSFW and adult content?

Yes, within limits. Bluesky's community guidelines allow consensual adult content as long as it's labeled, either by the poster or by Bluesky's moderation. What isn't allowed:

- Unlabeled adult content (it gets labeled, and repeat offenders face action).
- Adult content in profile pictures or banners.
- Anything involving minors, non-consensual imagery or illegal content, which is removed and reported.

So adult content exists on Bluesky, but it's off by default for every account and only appears for adults who opt in. For a broader look at moderation and privacy, see our guide to [whether Bluesky is safe](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/is-bluesky-safe).

## How to label your own posts

If you post adult or graphic images, add a label when you compose: tap the shield or **Labels** button next to the image, then pick Suggestive, Nudity, Adult (porn) or Graphic media. Posts labeled correctly reach people who opted in and stay out of everyone else's feed. Text-only posts can't carry these labels, since they apply to media.

If you schedule Bluesky posts ahead of time, keep sensitive images for posts you publish directly in the Bluesky app, where you can set the label yourself. For everything else, Schedule For You can queue your [Bluesky posts](https://scheduleforyou.com/bluesky) with images or video alongside X and Threads, and our [Bluesky character limit guide](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/bluesky-character-limit) covers the posting rules.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why can't I turn on adult content in the Bluesky app?
On iPhone the toggle isn't offered in the app because of App Store rules. Sign in at bsky.app in a browser, enable adult content under Settings, then Moderation, and restart the app.

### Do I need to verify my age to see adult content on Bluesky?
Only in places whose laws require it, such as the UK and some US states at the time of writing. Bluesky prompts you if it applies to you.

### Does Bluesky have porn?
Bluesky allows labeled adult content from adults, and it's hidden by default. You only see it if you're 18 or over and switch it on.

### Can I hide adult content again later?
Yes. Switch off Enable adult content, or set each label to Hide, under Settings, then Moderation.

### Can other people see that I enabled adult content?
No. Your moderation preferences are private to your account.
