Category: YouTube.

If it's your own video, you can see its dislikes in YouTube Studio: open **Analytics**, switch to **Advanced mode** and add the **Dislikes** metric, or check the likes-versus-dislikes figure in the **Content** list. If it's someone else's video, you can't see the exact dislike count. YouTube hid public dislike counts in November 2021, and only the creator can see the real number.

Some browser extensions show an estimated dislike count on other people's videos. Those numbers come from third-party data, not from YouTube, so treat them as estimates.

## Quick answer: who can see YouTube dislikes

| Who you are | Can you see dislikes? | Where |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The video's creator | Yes, exact count | YouTube Studio (Analytics and Content list) |
| Channel manager or editor | Yes, if your role includes analytics | YouTube Studio for that channel |
| Any other viewer | No official count | Only the dislike button, which shows your own vote |
| Viewer with a dislike extension | An estimate | Shown by the extension, not by YouTube |

## How to see dislikes on your own YouTube videos

### In YouTube Studio on a computer

**Option 1: the Content list**

1. Go to studio.youtube.com and click **Content**.
2. Find the **Likes (vs. dislikes)** column. It shows the percentage of ratings that were likes, with the number of likes underneath.
3. Use the percentage to work out the balance. For example, if a video has 90 likes at 90%, it has about 10 dislikes.

**Option 2: Analytics (exact numbers)**

1. In YouTube Studio, click **Analytics**.
2. Click **Advanced mode** in the top right.
3. Open the metric picker (the plus or column menu) and add **Dislikes**, along with **Likes** and **Likes (vs. dislikes)** if you want them side by side.
4. Pick a date range. To see the whole history of a video, choose **Lifetime**.
5. Filter by a single video, or group by **Content** to compare videos.

### In the YouTube Studio app

1. Open the **YouTube Studio** app and tap **Content**.
2. Tap a video, then open its analytics.
3. Look for the engagement section, which shows likes and the like-to-dislike ratio. The exact layout varies between app versions; for full numbers, use Studio on a computer.

### Shorts and live streams

The same steps work for Shorts and past live streams. In the Content list, switch to the **Shorts** or **Live** tab; in Advanced mode, filter by content type.

## Why YouTube hid public dislike counts

In November 2021, YouTube made dislike counts private on all videos after testing the change. The dislike button itself didn't go away: viewers can still dislike a video, and the creator still sees the total.

YouTube's stated reason was to reduce "dislike attacks," where groups coordinate to pile dislikes onto a video, which it said disproportionately affected smaller creators. Shortly afterward, the public dislike count was also removed from the data YouTube provides to developers, so other sites and apps can no longer pull official dislike numbers.

For viewers, disliking a video still does something: it helps tune your own recommendations. For creators, dislikes remain a private feedback signal.

## Can viewers still see dislikes? What extensions actually show

You may have seen browser extensions that add a dislike number back under YouTube videos. It's worth understanding where that number comes from before relying on it.

### How the estimates work

Because YouTube no longer publishes dislike counts, these extensions have to build their own numbers. In general they combine:

- **Archived counts** collected before YouTube hid them, for older videos.
- **Votes from their own users**, who have the extension installed, scaled up to estimate the total.

That means the figure is a third-party estimate. It can be reasonably close on popular videos with lots of extension users and far off on new, niche or small videos where few extension users have voted. YouTube doesn't confirm or support these numbers.

### Things to consider before installing one

- **Permissions.** Browser extensions can read the pages you visit. Check what an extension asks for, who makes it and how it handles your data.
- **Accuracy.** Treat the number as a rough signal, not a fact. Don't make decisions, or accuse a creator of anything, based on it.
- **Official sources.** No extension can show the real count; only the creator can see that in YouTube Studio.

We don't recommend any particular extension.

## Better ways for viewers to judge a video

If you used dislikes to decide whether a tutorial or review was worth your time, these signals still work:

- **The comments.** Look for specific feedback, like "step 4 didn't work for me," rather than general praise.
- **Pinned comments and corrections** from the creator.
- **The like count** relative to views. It's not a ratio with dislikes, but it shows whether people found the video worth rewarding.
- **Chapters and the description**, which show whether the video covers what you need before you watch.

## What creators should do with dislike data

Dislikes are most useful in context, alongside other numbers in YouTube Studio:

| Signal | What it might mean |
| --- | --- |
| High dislikes and short average view duration | The video didn't deliver what the title or thumbnail promised |
| High dislikes but strong retention | The topic is divisive; people watched but disagreed |
| A sudden spike in dislikes after publishing | The video was shared somewhere with a hostile audience |
| A low, steady dislike rate | Normal; every video gets some |

Practical steps:

1. **Compare the video to your channel's usual like ratio** rather than looking at the raw number.
2. **Read the comments** posted around the same time as the dislikes to understand why.
3. **Check your packaging.** A mismatch between title and content is a common cause of dislikes. The [YouTube title checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/youtube-title-checker) can help you write titles that set clear expectations.
4. **Look at audience retention** to find the moment viewers left.

Schedule For You uploads and schedules YouTube videos, but it doesn't show likes, dislikes or other analytics. YouTube Studio is the only place to see your real dislike counts.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I see who disliked my YouTube video?

No. YouTube shows creators how many dislikes a video has, but not who left them. Likes are anonymous in the same way.

### Do dislikes hurt a YouTube video?

YouTube doesn't publish exactly how ratings affect recommendations. Dislikes are one of many signals, and YouTube puts more emphasis on what viewers watch and how satisfied they are. A video can perform well with a meaningful number of dislikes if people keep watching it.

### Can I hide the like count on my videos?

Yes. When uploading or editing a video in YouTube Studio, you can untick the option that shows viewers how many people liked it. Dislike counts are already hidden from the public.

### Are dislike extensions accurate?

They're estimates. They're based on archived data and on votes from their own users, so accuracy varies, especially on newer or smaller videos. Only the creator can see the real number in YouTube Studio.

### Can I see dislikes on YouTube Shorts?

On your own Shorts, yes, in YouTube Studio. On other people's Shorts, no; the count is private just as it is for regular videos.
