To turn off profile views on TikTok, go to **Profile > menu (three lines) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Profile views** and switch off **Profile view history**. With it off, other people can't see that you viewed their profile, and you can't see who viewed yours. The setting works both ways: TikTok only shows a visit when *both* people have it turned on. Watching someone's videos in your feed isn't the same as visiting their profile and doesn't show up in this list.

## How to turn off profile view history

**From settings:**

1. Open TikTok and tap **Profile**.
2. Tap the **menu** (three lines) at the top right and choose **Settings and privacy**.
3. Tap **Privacy**, then **Profile views**.
4. Switch off **Profile view history**.

**From your inbox:** if you've had a "viewed your profile" notification, tap it, tap the settings icon on the Profile views page and switch the feature off.

Menu labels move between app versions, so the wording may differ slightly on your phone.

## How TikTok profile views work

| Question | Answer, at the time of writing |
| --- | --- |
| Is it on by default? | Reported as off by default for most accounts |
| Who appears in the list? | People who viewed your profile in the past 30 days and also have the setting on |
| Who can use it? | Accounts 16 and older with fewer than 5,000 followers, according to TikTok's rollout notes and most guides |
| Does turning it off hide past visits? | It stops new visits being recorded and hides the list; visits you made while it was on may already have been seen |

Profile view history is separate from **post view history**, which (where available) shows people who watched your videos in the past seven days, again only if they have the setting on too. You'll find it under **Privacy > Post views**.

## Does a private browser hide your views on TikTok?

Mostly, yes. If you open a profile in a private or incognito browser window **without logging in**, TikTok has no account to link the visit to, so it can't appear in anyone's profile view history. If you log in inside that private window, the visit counts as your account's, the same as in the app. Watching a video still adds to its public view count either way.

You can read more about watching without an account in our guide to [watching TikTok without the app](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-watch-tiktok-without-app).

## Do people know if you watch their TikTok repost?

No. TikTok doesn't tell anyone that you watched a video they reposted, and reposts don't appear in profile view history. People can see who reposted a video (reposts are public to your followers and friends), but not who watched it. The exception is post view history: if the original creator and you both have post views turned on, your view of their video can appear in their list.

## Can people see your likes on TikTok?

It depends on one setting. Your **Liked videos** tab can be set to show to everyone or only you, and recent guides, including Consumer Reports, say it's private by default. To check:

1. Go to **Settings and privacy > Privacy**.
2. Tap **Liked videos** and choose **Only me**.

Separately, a creator can always see which accounts liked their own videos, by tapping the like count. Hiding your Liked tab doesn't change that.

## Can you see a hidden following list on TikTok?

No, not through any legitimate method. When someone sets **Following list** to **Only me** (under Settings and privacy > Privacy), other people only see the accounts you both follow, shown as mutual follows. Sites and apps that promise to reveal hidden following lists don't work and often ask for your login, which puts your account at risk. To hide your own list, change **Following list** to **Only me** in the same menu.

## Other privacy settings worth a look

- **Private account**: only followers you approve see your videos.
- **Suggest your account to others**: stop TikTok suggesting you to contacts or people with mutual connections.
- **Activity status**: hide when you're active in messages.

If you run a business or creator account and plan posts in advance, you can schedule videos with a privacy setting per post (public, friends or only me) with Schedule For You. [See TikTok scheduling](https://scheduleforyou.com/tiktok).

## Frequently asked questions

### If I turn off profile views, can people still see I viewed their profile?
No new visits will be shown. Visits that were already shown while the setting was on may still have been seen before you turned it off.

### Why don't I have the profile views option on TikTok?
It's usually because your account has 5,000 or more followers, you're under 16, or your app needs updating. Availability also varies by region.

### Does TikTok tell people when you watch their videos?
Only through post view history, and only when both of you have it turned on. Otherwise watching a video is anonymous apart from the view count.

### Can people see who viewed their TikTok profile without the setting?
No. A visit appears only when both people have Profile view history turned on.
