The LinkedIn post character limit is **3,000 characters** for a regular feed post, including spaces, emoji and hashtags. The feed shows roughly the first 210 characters on desktop and about 140 on mobile before the **…see more** cut, so the opening line does most of the work.

Here are the limits for every part of LinkedIn, how the cut-off works, and how to stay inside the numbers while you write.

## LinkedIn character limits at a glance

| Where | Limit |
| --- | --- |
| Feed post | 3,000 characters |
| Comment | 1,250 characters |
| Headline | 220 characters |
| About section | 2,600 characters |
| Article (long-form) | 110,000 characters body, 100-character title |
| Message (InMail and direct) | 1,900 characters body, 200-character subject |
| Company Page tagline | 120 characters |
| Company Page About | 2,000 characters |
| Poll question | 140 characters, 30 per option |
| Hashtags | No fixed cap, but 3 to 5 is the usual advice |

Limits change occasionally; LinkedIn's help center is the final word.

## Where the "see more" cut falls

The feed truncates posts after about three lines. In practice that's around 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile, depending on line breaks: an early line break shortens what shows. Put the hook, the claim or the question in the first line and never start with "I'm excited to share".

Line breaks in the body are kept as you type them. LinkedIn strips extra blank lines beyond one.

## Writing to the limit without counting

A 3,000-character post is about 450 to 500 words, which is longer than most posts need. The posts that get read tend to be 800 to 1,500 characters: a one-line hook, short paragraphs, one idea, a question at the end.

If you post the same idea to several platforms, the limits differ a lot: X allows 280 characters, Bluesky 300, Threads 500, Instagram 2,200 and LinkedIn 3,000. Schedule For You shows a live counter for each platform as you type and lets you tailor the LinkedIn version separately, so a long LinkedIn post and a short X post can come from one draft. The [LinkedIn text formatter](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/linkedin-text-formatter) adds bold and italic text, which LinkedIn's own composer doesn't offer.
