Category: Threads.

The Threads character limit is **500 characters** per post, including spaces, emoji, links and hashtags. A longer thought becomes a thread of 500-character posts. Media is generous: up to 20 photos or videos in a carousel, and videos up to five minutes. Here are the rules, the best time to post, and the ways to schedule posts on Threads.

## Threads limits at a glance

| What | Limit |
| --- | --- |
| Post text | 500 characters |
| Photos or videos per post | Up to 20 in a carousel |
| Video length | Up to 5 minutes |
| Links | Allowed in the text; the first one gets a preview card |
| Topic tag | One per post (Threads' version of hashtags) |
| Bio | 150 characters |
| Alt text | Supported on images |

Threads is run by Meta and changes often; its help center has the current numbers.

## Links and tags on Threads

Links count toward the 500 characters at their full length. The first link in a post gets a preview card. Threads uses a single topic tag per post instead of many hashtags; a `#` in the text is turned into a tag only for that one term.

## Longer posts become threads

Write past 500 characters and Threads prompts you to continue in a reply. Each part is a separate post that readers open from the first one, so the opening post needs to make sense alone. Media can go on any part.

## Best time to post on Threads

Threads inherits Instagram's audience, so activity peaks on weekday mornings and early evenings in your followers' time zones, and midweek tends to do better than weekends. The For You feed favours replies and reposts in the first hours, so post when you can answer. Two or three posts a day at those times is a workable rhythm for most accounts.

## How to schedule Threads posts

Threads added native scheduling in 2025 for posts created in the app on desktop and mobile. Start a post, open the **…** menu in the composer, choose **Schedule** and pick a time up to 75 days ahead; scheduled posts are listed from your profile.

A scheduler does the same from one queue that also holds your Instagram, X, Bluesky and LinkedIn posts. In Schedule For You you connect Threads with Meta's sign-in, then:

1. Write the post. The counter checks it against the 500-character limit, and a caption with a line holding only `---` publishes as a thread, each part a reply to the one before.
2. Attach a photo or video, or up to 10 for a carousel.
3. Pick a time or **Add to queue** for the next open posting slot.

The same draft can carry different wording for X (280 characters) or LinkedIn (3,000), tailored per platform. The [Threads scheduler page](https://scheduleforyou.com/threads) lists what's supported.
