If TikTok won't let you follow people, the most common reason is a **temporary follow limit**: you followed a lot of accounts in a short time, and TikTok paused follows to stop spam. It usually lifts within a few hours to a day. Other causes are hitting the **10,000-account following cap**, a **new account** with tighter limits, the other person's **privacy settings or a block**, or a plain **app glitch**. The button may bounce back to "Follow," or show an error like "You're following too fast."

## 1. You hit a temporary follow limit

TikTok doesn't publish its limits, but following a few hundred accounts in a day, or following and unfollowing quickly, often triggers a pause. Reports put the daily limit around 200 follows, lower for new accounts. Wait at least 24 hours, then follow at a normal pace. Trying again and again during the block can make it last longer.

## 2. You're following 10,000 accounts

## 3. Your account is new

Can't follow people on a new TikTok account? New accounts get stricter limits because spam accounts tend to follow hundreds of people on day one. Add a profile photo and bio, verify your email or phone, watch and like videos for a few days, and follow a handful of accounts at a time.

## 4. The account is private, or you've sent a request

With a private account, tapping Follow sends a **request**. The button shows **Requested** until they approve it. You can't follow them until they do.

## 5. You're blocked, or you blocked them

## 6. Age or account restrictions

Accounts registered as under 16 have extra restrictions on some features, and an account that broke the Community Guidelines can have features limited for a while. Check **Settings and privacy > Account > Account status** (where available) for any restriction.

- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or turn a VPN off.

## 8. You used a follow-for-follow or automation app

Apps that follow accounts for you can get your account action-blocked for longer. Revoke their access under **Settings and privacy > Security > Manage app permissions** (or the equivalent in your version) and change your password.
