## What you can schedule on Instagram
Schedule For You publishes feed content to an Instagram Business or Creator account that's linked to a Facebook Page. The type of post is decided by what you attach, so there's no format menu to get wrong.

### Photo posts
Attach one image and it goes out as a regular feed photo with your caption. Captions can be up to 2,200 characters, and the composer counts as you type so you know when the Instagram version is too long.

### Reels
Attach one video and it's published as a Reel. Edit your cuts, text overlays and audio before you upload, because Schedule For You posts the file exactly as you provide it.

### Carousels
Attach between 2 and 10 items and they're published as a single carousel. You can mix images and videos in the same carousel and drag them into the order you want people to swipe through.

### Prepare images before you upload
Schedule For You doesn't crop or resize your images. Instagram's own feed rules apply, which at the time of writing means images between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape. If a photo is taller or wider than that, resize it first with the free [Instagram photo resizer](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-photo-resizer). For a seamless swipe from one wide image, split it with the [Instagram carousel splitter](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-carousel-splitter).

## How scheduling Instagram posts works
1. **Connect your account.** Open the Accounts screen and connect Instagram. You'll sign in through Meta and choose the Business or Creator account that's linked to your Facebook Page.
2. **Write your post.** Draft one caption and attach your media. If you're posting the same idea elsewhere, select those accounts too.
3. **Tailor the Instagram version.** Open the Instagram tab to adjust the caption on its own. You might add more line breaks and hashtags here while keeping the LinkedIn version short and plain. Editing one platform's version never changes the others.
4. **Pick a time or add it to the queue.** Choose an exact date and time, or drop the post into your queue so it fills the next open time slot.

## Features that help on Instagram
### Queue, time slots and calendar
Set the posting time slots you want each week, then add posts to the queue as you finish them. The drag-and-drop calendar shows the whole month, so you can spot a gap or move a carousel to a better day in one motion.

### Bulk scheduling and the media library
Upload a CSV with captions and media to schedule a month in one go. Uploads stay in the media library for reuse.

### Approvals and client previews
If you post for a client or a brand, send a preview link. Clients can approve or comment on a post without creating an account, and nothing goes live until it's approved if you use the approval step.

### Failed-post alerts
Meta sometimes revokes access, for example after a password change. If a post can't publish, you get an alert with a prompt to reconnect the account from the Accounts screen and retry.

## Tips for scheduling on Instagram
- **Put the hook before the cut-off.** Only the first line or two of a caption shows in the feed, so lead with the point and save hashtags for the end.
- **Write for the profile grid too.** Every feed post and carousel cover lands on your grid, so think about how a week of images will sit side by side before they go out.
- **Mix formats.** A queue that alternates photos, Reels and carousels gives followers different reasons to stop scrolling.

## Frequently asked questions
### Can Schedule For You post Instagram Stories?
Yes. Set "Post as" to Story and attach one image or video (9:16). Stories go out without a caption, and stickers, polls and music aren't available through Meta's API. Feed photos, Reels and carousels can also have a first comment, posted by your account right after the post goes live, which is a good place for hashtags.

### Do I need a business account?
You need an Instagram Business or Creator account that's linked to a Facebook Page. Personal Instagram accounts can't be connected. You can switch account type in Instagram's settings; see [Instagram's help center](https://help.instagram.com) for the current steps.

### How many photos can I put in a carousel?
Between 2 and 10 images or videos, and you can mix the two in one carousel.

### Will Schedule For You crop my photos to fit?
No, it publishes the image as you uploaded it. If the aspect ratio is outside what Instagram accepts for the feed, resize it before you schedule.

### Can I post the same content to Facebook and other platforms?
Yes. Select several accounts when you write the post, then tailor each platform's version. Schedule For You publishes to 10 platforms, including Facebook Pages, Threads and TikTok.

### What happens if a post fails?
You're alerted straight away. The most common cause is an expired connection, which you fix by reconnecting the account from the Accounts screen and retrying the post.
