Canonical: https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/giveaway-picker

Paste the usernames from your giveaway comments, leave out duplicates and your own accounts, then spin the wheel to draw winners and alternates at random. No login, nothing uploaded.

This page has a giveaway winner picker (entrants are pasted in; it reads nothing from social platforms) that runs in the browser; use the HTML page to run it. The text below is the guide that goes with it.

## How this Instagram giveaway picker works
This Instagram giveaway picker draws random winners from a list of usernames you paste in. It does **not** connect to Instagram or read your comments automatically: you copy the usernames from your comments and paste them into the box, then press **Draw**. It takes a few extra minutes, but you never log in or hand over account access, and the same giveaway picker works for TikTok, X, YouTube or anywhere else.

### 1. Paste your entrants
Put one username per line, or separate them with commas, in the **Entrants** box. A leading @ is removed, so "@alice" and "alice" are the same entrant. Below the box, a line keeps count as you paste, for example "212 entrants from 240 lines · 28 duplicates." If you paste whole comments ("@alice love this!"), tick **Pasted whole comments? Keep only the first word (the username) of each line** and each line becomes just its username. The box handles up to 20,000 lines.

### 2. Decide how repeat entries count
**Remove duplicates** is on by default, so each person gets one place in the draw however many times they commented. Names match regardless of capital letters. With it on, you can also tick **Extra chance for each extra entry (one win per person)**: someone who commented three times gets three chances but can still win only once. Turn **Remove duplicates** off and every line counts as its own entry, so the same name could win more than one place.

### 3. Choose winners and alternates
Pick up to 20 **Winners** and up to 5 **Alternates**. Alternates are drawn after the winners, in order, so you know who's next if a winner doesn't reply or isn't eligible.

### 4. Exclude accounts that can't win
Type your own account, team members or anyone else who shouldn't win into **Exclude (your own account, team members…)**, separated by commas. They're removed before the draw and shown in the count.

### 5. Spin, then copy the results
Press **Draw** and the wheel spins (briefly, if your device is set to reduce motion) and stops on the first winner. **Draw results** lists the winners and alternates with the date and time of the draw, the number of entrants and the settings used. **Copy results** puts all of it on your clipboard as plain text, ready to save or paste into an announcement. To run another draw, press **Draw again**; changing any setting clears the old result, so two draws never get mixed up.

### How the randomness works
Winners are picked in your browser with the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), using a method with no bias toward any position in the list, so every entry has the same odds. Nobody, including us, can see or steer the draw.

## Why it doesn't read your comments (and why that helps)
Many "Instagram comment picker" tools ask you to log in with Instagram or connect your account so they can pull comments in. This one deliberately doesn't, and that has real advantages:
- **No login:** you never type your Instagram password into a third-party site or grant it access to your account.
- **No API access:** there's nothing to authorize, and nothing that breaks when a platform changes its API.
- **Works on any platform:** Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, a livestream chat or an email list. If you can copy the names, you can draw from them.
- **Private:** the list never leaves your device.

### Using it as a random comment picker
Match the settings to your giveaway's rules:

| Your rule | Settings |
|---|---|
| One entry per person | **Remove duplicates** on |
| Every comment is an entry, one win per person | **Remove duplicates** on, **Extra chance** on |
| Every comment is an entry, people can win twice | **Remove duplicates** off |

To collect names, go through the comments and copy each username into a notes app or a spreadsheet column, one per line, then paste the whole column here. While you go, skip anyone who didn't follow the rules, such as not tagging a friend; the picker can't check that for you.

## How to run a fair giveaway on Instagram, TikTok and X
### Write the rules before you post
Put the rules in the caption or link to them: who can enter (age, country), how to enter, the deadline with a time zone, the prize, how many winners, how winners are picked and contacted, and how long they have to reply before you move to an alternate. Clear rules prevent arguments later; the [Instagram line break generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-line-break-generator) keeps a long rules caption readable.

### Follow each platform's promotion rules
Instagram (Meta) publishes promotion guidelines for anyone running a contest or giveaway on the platform. At the time of writing, they make you responsible for running the promotion lawfully and expect you to make clear that Instagram doesn't sponsor or endorse it. TikTok and X have their own rules on promotions and spam, which generally discourage things like rewarding people for creating extra accounts or posting the same content over and over. Read the current versions before you launch; they change.

### Check the law where you and your entrants are
Giveaway and sweepstakes rules vary by country, and in the US by state. Requiring a purchase to enter, or picking winners by skill rather than chance, can change how a promotion is treated, and some prizes have tax consequences for winners. This page isn't legal advice: for a large or high-value prize, get advice from someone qualified where you operate.

### Draw in the open
Screen-record the first spin rather than drawing until you like the result, take a screenshot of **Draw results**, and keep the copied results with the date and entrant count. If anyone asks how the winner was chosen, you can show them.

## Announcing the winners
Announce from the account that ran the giveaway, and message winners from that same account. Giveaways attract impersonators who copy your name and photo and DM entrants saying "you won," then ask for a payment, card details or a login. Say in your rules that you'll never ask for any of those, and repeat it in the announcement.

Give winners a reasonable deadline to reply, and if one doesn't, go to your alternates in the order they were drawn. Edit the original caption to say the giveaway has closed so late commenters don't think they're still in.

### Schedule the posts around the draw
The giveaway post, the "last chance to enter" reminder and the winner announcement can all be planned ahead. With Schedule For You you can line them up across Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads and Facebook, then run the draw here as soon as entries close. A simple graphic made with [add text to image](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/add-text-to-image), or a [photo collage](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/photo-collage-maker) of the prize, makes the announcement stand out. Our guide on [how to schedule Instagram posts](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/how-to-schedule-instagram-posts) walks through the scheduling side.

## Frequently asked questions
### Can this pick a winner from Instagram comments automatically?
No. It doesn't connect to Instagram or read comments. You paste the usernames from your comments, and it picks winners from that list. That's why it needs no login and works for any platform.

### Is the giveaway picker really random?
Yes. Winners are drawn with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and every entry has the same chance unless you turn on **Extra chance for each extra entry**. The wheel animation lands on a winner that has already been drawn at random; the spin is just for show.

### Can I pick more than one winner?
Yes. Choose up to 20 winners and up to 5 alternates. Nobody can win twice while **Remove duplicates** is on.

### What if someone commented more than once?
With **Remove duplicates** on, they get one place in the draw. Add **Extra chance for each extra entry** to give them one chance per comment while still limiting them to one win.

### Does it work for TikTok, X and YouTube giveaways?
Yes. It works with any list of names, wherever they came from: TikTok or YouTube comments, X replies, Facebook comments or a sign-up form.

### Do I need to log in to Instagram?
No. You never connect an account or enter a password, and nothing you paste is uploaded.

### How do I show followers the draw was fair?
Screen-record the spin and share the **Draw results**, which include the draw time, the number of entrants and the settings. Keep a copy of the entrant list you pasted in case anyone asks.
