Type once, copy any of 30+ Unicode styles and paste them into your Instagram bio, name field, captions, Reels captions, comments and Story text.

This page has a Unicode font generator that runs in the browser; use the HTML page to run it. The text below is the guide that goes with it.

## Styles you can generate for Instagram

Instagram has no font menu for bios or captions, but it shows Unicode characters exactly as you paste them. Enter your text above, browse 30+ styles, and tap the one you want to copy it.

### Clean styles for captions

Sans-serif bold (𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗼), sans italic, serif bold and monospace sit comfortably next to Instagram's own typeface. They work well for a caption hook or a short label like "𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭". For bold only, try the [Instagram bold text generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-bold-text-generator).

### Aesthetic styles for bios

Script (𝒮𝓅𝓇𝒾𝓃ℊ), bold script, gothic, double-struck outline letters, small caps (ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ) and fullwidth vaporwave text are popular in creator and lifestyle bios, where one styled line sets the tone.

### Playful and utility styles

Bubble and black bubble letters, squared letters, superscript, upside-down text, and lined styles such as strikethrough and underline.

### Not fonts, just characters

Every style is a set of Unicode characters that resemble letters, not a font file. Instagram can't tell that 𝓢 is meant to be an "S", which matters for search and accessibility (more on that below).

## Where styled text works on Instagram

### Bio and name field

Your bio allows 150 characters, and styled text pastes in fine. Your name field (the bold line above your bio) also accepts most styles, but Instagram uses that field in search, so styling it can make you harder to find. Your username is different: it only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styled characters won't be accepted there.

### Captions and Reels captions

Captions can be up to 2,200 characters. Only the first line or two show before "more," so that's where a styled hook does the most work. To keep the blank lines between paragraphs, run the finished caption through the [Instagram line break generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-line-break-generator).

### Comments, Notes and highlight names

Styled text works in comments and replies, in Notes, and in the names of your Story highlights. A short styled highlight name can make your profile look organized.

### Stories

Instagram's Story editor has its own built-in fonts, which are real fonts and the better choice for on-image text. Pasting Unicode styles into a Story text box usually works, but the result can look different from the generator's preview.

## Best practices

### Never style hashtags or handles

A hashtag written as #𝗯𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 is not the same tag as #baking, so it won't link to the tag page. Mentions in styled characters won't tag anyone. Keep both in plain text.

### Keep the searchable parts plain

People find accounts through names, usernames and keywords. If your name field reads "𝓜𝓪𝔂𝓪 | 𝓒𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓶𝓲𝓬𝓼," Instagram search may not match "Maya ceramics." Style a tagline in your bio instead and leave your name plain.

### Remember screen reader users

Screen readers may spell styled words letter by letter or describe them as mathematical symbols. Use styles for a few words of emphasis, not for whole captions, and don't put key details like dates or prices only in decorative text.

### Count characters after styling

Most styled letters are stored as more than one code unit. Instagram may count them differently from plain letters, so leave some room under the 150-character bio limit and check that nothing gets cut off.

## Use cases

### Creator bios

One styled line such as "𝓬𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓶𝓲𝓬𝓼 & 𝓼𝓵𝓸𝔀 𝓶𝓸𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼" followed by plain details. Need wording ideas first? The [Instagram bio generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/instagram-bio-generator) suggests bios that fit the limit.

### Carousel and tutorial captions

Bold step labels (𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭, 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮) help readers match the caption to each slide.

### Shop launches

A bold opening line and a struck-through old price draw attention without extra emoji.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I change my font on Instagram?

You can't change Instagram's interface font. What you can do is paste Unicode characters that look like other fonts. Type your text here, tap a style to copy it, then paste it into your bio, caption or comment.

### Why can't I use fancy fonts in my username?

Instagram usernames can only contain letters, numbers, periods and underscores, up to 30 characters. Styled Unicode letters aren't in that set, so Instagram won't accept them. Use your name field or bio for styling instead.

### Do Instagram fonts work in captions on every phone?

Bold, italic and sans-serif styles display on nearly all modern iPhones and Android phones. Rarer characters, like some squared or bubble letters, may show as boxes on older devices. Check a post from a second device if it matters.

### Will fancy fonts affect my hashtags?

Yes. Hashtags only work in plain characters. Style the words around your hashtags if you like, but type the tags themselves normally.

### Is this Instagram font generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, there's no sign-up, and nothing you type is sent to a server.

### Can I use these styles in Reels on-screen text?

The Reels editor uses its own fonts for text overlays. Pasted Unicode often works there too, but the in-app fonts are more reliable and easier to read.
