Canonical: https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/roblox-username-checker

Check a Roblox username against Roblox's format rules, get close valid alternatives, and open Roblox's user search to see whether someone already has it.

This page has a handle checker that runs in the browser; use the HTML page to run it. The text below is the guide that goes with it.

## What the Roblox username checker does
This Roblox username checker tells you whether a name follows Roblox's username rules: 3 to 20 characters, letters and numbers, and at most one underscore that isn't at the start or end. When a name passes, one tap opens Roblox's user search so you can see whether an account already uses it. It **can't** promise a name is free. Roblox has no public availability check, and banned or hidden accounts can still hold names, so the Roblox sign-up form (or your account settings) always has the final word.

### The rules it tests
- Length between 3 and 20 characters
- Only letters and numbers, plus one underscore
- No spaces, periods, hyphens or emoji
- The underscore can't be the first or last character

So "Block_Builder7" passes, while "Block__Builder", "_BlockBuilder" and "Block.Builder" don't. When a name fails, the checker says which rule it broke and suggests close variations that pass. It also flags names made only of numbers and symbols, since a name with no letters is hard for friends to find.

### What the search button shows
Roblox doesn't have a profile address built from the username, so the button opens Roblox's user search with your name filled in. If an account with exactly that username appears in the results, the name is taken. Similar names in the results don't matter; only an exact match does. If there's no exact match, the name is worth trying, but it isn't guaranteed: accounts that are banned or otherwise hidden may not show up.

### Nothing is sent anywhere
The check runs in your browser. The names you type aren't sent to Roblox or to us, and nothing is saved. You never need to sign in to use it.

## How to check a Roblox username
### 1. Type the name you want
Enter it the way you want it to look. Capital letters are allowed and show as you type them, so "BlockBuilder" is easier to read than "blockbuilder."

### 2. Fix what's flagged
Most failures are a second underscore, an underscore at the end, a space or a period, or a name over 20 characters. Pick one of the suggested variations if you're stuck.

### 3. Search Roblox for an exact match
Tap the button to open Roblox's user search. No exact match is a good sign, not a guarantee.

### 4. Confirm on Roblox
If you're making a new account, the Roblox sign-up form tells you straight away whether the username is available. If you already have an account, you can change your username in your account settings. Changing a username costs Robux, so it's worth checking the rules and the search first.

### Check a list of ideas
Switch to **Check a list** to paste up to 200 names, one per line. The checker marks which ones follow Roblox's rules and lets you copy just the valid ones. It checks the rules only, not whether the names are taken.

## Username vs. display name on Roblox
### Your username is unique
Your username is the name tied to your account, shown with an @ in front. No one else can have the same one, and as far as availability goes, Roblox treats names that differ only in capital letters as the same username. That's the name this checker tests.

### Your display name can be anything friendly
Your display name is the name other players see first in games and on your profile. It doesn't have to be unique, and you can change it separately from your username, without spending Robux at the time of writing. If the exact username you wanted is taken, you can often use that name as your display name and pick a close variation as your username.

### Roblox's filter has a say too
Roblox also blocks names its filter considers inappropriate, or that look like they contain personal information. This checker can't predict that filter, which is another reason the sign-up form gets the final answer.

## Stay safe when picking a Roblox username
### Keep personal details out of it
Your username is public, so leave out your real name, last name, birth year, age, school, city or anything else that tells strangers who you are. "SkyPilot_9" is fine; "EmmaJones2014" tells everyone your name and roughly how old you are.

### Never give your password to a "checker"
A username checker never needs your password, your account cookie or a login. Sites that ask for them, or promise free Robux or rare usernames in return, are trying to steal accounts. This checker works without you signing in to anything.

### Protect the account once you have it
Turn on two-step verification in your Roblox security settings and use a password you don't use anywhere else. Parents can also review Roblox's parental controls together with younger players.

### Use the same safe name elsewhere
If you also post Roblox clips on YouTube or TikTok, test the same name on every platform at once with the [username checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/username-checker), or one at a time with the [YouTube handle checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/youtube-handle-checker) and [TikTok username checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/tiktok-username-checker). For a Discord server for your friends or group, the [Discord username checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/discord-username-checker) works the same way. Need ideas first? ## Frequently asked questions
### Can this checker tell me if a Roblox username is taken?
Not for certain. It checks the name against Roblox's rules and opens Roblox's user search so you can look for an exact match. Roblox's sign-up form or your account settings give the definite answer.

### How many characters can a Roblox username have?
Between 3 and 20 characters, using letters, numbers and at most one underscore.

### Can a Roblox username have two underscores or a space?
No. Roblox allows one underscore, and it can't be the first or last character. Spaces, periods and hyphens aren't allowed.

### Does it cost Robux to change a Roblox username?
Yes, changing your username costs Robux. Changing your display name is a separate setting, and at the time of writing it doesn't cost Robux.

### Why does Roblox say a name is taken when the search shows nothing?
The name may belong to an account that's banned or hidden from search, or Roblox's filter may not allow it. Those names can't be claimed even though no profile shows up.

### Is it safe to use this Roblox username checker?
Yes. It never asks you to sign in, never asks for a password and doesn't send the names you type anywhere. Be wary of any site that does ask for your Roblox login.

## For Roblox creators who also post videos
Schedule For You doesn't post to Roblox. If you make Roblox videos for YouTube or TikTok, it can schedule those uploads, plus Instagram and seven other networks, from one queue with a separate caption for each.
