> Free Twitch username checker. Test a name against Twitch's 4–25 character rules, get valid variations, check a whole list and open twitch.tv/name in one tap.

Canonical: https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/twitch-username-checker

Check a Twitch username against the platform's format rules, get close valid alternatives, and open twitch.tv/name to see whether a channel already uses it.

This page has a handle checker that runs in the browser; use the HTML page to run it. The text below is the guide that goes with it.

## What the Twitch username checker tells you
The Twitch username checker tests a name against Twitch's format rules and links to twitch.tv/yourname, so you can see in one click whether a channel already has it. It can't guarantee the name is free: Twitch has no public availability lookup, and names can stay attached to banned, closed or recently renamed accounts. The final answer comes from Twitch's sign-up form or the username field in your settings.

### The rules it tests
- 4 to 25 characters
- Letters, numbers and underscores only
- Can't start with an underscore
- No spaces, periods, hyphens or emoji
When a name breaks a rule, the checker says which one and lists close variations that pass, such as adding "live," "tv" or "plays." A name made only of numbers also gets a tip to add a letter, so viewers can find and remember it.

### Check a list of names
Switch to **Check a list** to paste up to 200 names, one per line or separated by commas. Each one is marked as valid or gets a short reason it fails, valid names link to their channel URL, and you can copy only the valid ones. Paste a brainstorm, keep the names that pass, then open the links for your favorites.

### Reading the channel link
The button opens twitch.tv/ followed by your name in lowercase. If a channel loads, the name is taken. If Twitch says the channel doesn't exist, the name may be free, but a suspended or closed account may still hold it. Treat it as "worth trying," then confirm on Twitch.

## How to do a Twitch username check
### 1. Type the name you want
Enter it without spaces. If you'd normally separate words, use an underscore ("pixel_raider"), just not as the first character.

### 2. Fix what's flagged
The most common problems are length (under 4 or over 25 characters), a period or hyphen, which Twitch doesn't accept, or an underscore at the start. The checker names the problem.

### 3. Open the channel link
If a channel loads, pick one of the suggested variations and check again. If nothing loads, the name is worth trying.

### 4. Confirm on Twitch
For a new account, type the name into Twitch's sign-up form; it tells you whether the name is available. For an existing account, try it in the username field of your profile settings.

## Login name vs. display name
### Your username is your login and URL
Your Twitch username is the name you log in with and the one in your channel URL. It's stored in lowercase, so "PixelRaider" and "pixelraider" are the same username. This is what the Twitch name checker tests.

### Your display name can change capitalization
Your display name is what viewers see in chat and on your channel. On Twitch it generally matches your username, but you can change the capitalization, so a username of "pixelraider" can show as "PixelRaider." That's a free way to make a run-together name easier to read without an underscore.

### Changing your username
Twitch lets you change your username, but it limits how often you can do it, and your old name isn't necessarily released to someone else right away. Check Twitch's help page for the current rules before you change it, and update links to your channel afterward.

## Tips for a Twitch name that works off Twitch too
### Keep it short enough for X
Streamers promote their streams on other platforms. X caps usernames at 15 characters, so a 22-character Twitch name won't carry over. Test the same name on nine platforms at once with the [username availability checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/username-checker).

### Make it easy to say on stream
Viewers repeat your name to friends and other streamers shout you out. Avoid look-alike characters (a capital I and a lowercase l, or a 0 and an O) and long strings of numbers.

### Match your Discord and YouTube
If your community lives on Discord or you post highlights to YouTube, check the same name with the [Discord username checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/discord-username-checker) and the [YouTube name checker](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/youtube-handle-checker) before you commit. ## Frequently asked questions
### Can this Twitch name checker tell me if a username is taken?
Not definitively. It validates the format and opens the channel URL so you can look, but Twitch has no public availability check. Twitch's sign-up form or your settings give the only reliable answer.

### How many characters can a Twitch username have?
Between 4 and 25 characters, using letters, numbers and underscores. It can't start with an underscore.

### Why does Twitch say a name is taken when no channel shows up?
The name may belong to an account that's suspended, closed or recently renamed, or Twitch may have reserved it. Those names can stay unavailable even though no channel loads.

### Are Twitch usernames case-sensitive?
No. Usernames are stored in lowercase, so capital letters don't make a different name. You can change the capitalization of your display name, though.

### How often can I change my Twitch username?
Twitch limits how often you can change it. The exact rules can change, so check Twitch's help page before you do it.

### Can I check a list of Twitch names at once?
Yes. Use the **Check a list** mode to paste up to 200 names, see which follow Twitch's rules, and copy the valid ones.

### Does the checker store the names I type?
No. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded or saved.
