# Username Availability Checker – Test 9 Platforms at Once

> Free username availability checker for social media handles. Test one name against Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Twitch, Discord and more, then open each profile.

Canonical: https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/username-checker

Type one username to see whether it fits the rules on Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Twitch, Discord, Roblox, Telegram and Reddit, with a profile link for each platform so you can check who already has it.

This page has a handle checker that runs in the browser; use the HTML page to run it. The text below is the guide that goes with it.

## How this username availability checker works
Type a name once and the username availability checker tests it against the format rules of nine platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Twitch, Discord, Roblox, Telegram and Reddit. For every platform where the name fits, you get a link to the matching public profile, so you can see in one click whether an account already uses it. It's the fastest way to check username availability across your social media handles before you sign up anywhere.

### What each row tells you
- **Fits · open profile**: the name follows that platform's rules. The link opens the profile URL (or, for Roblox, Roblox's user search) in a new tab.
- **Fits · check in the app**: the name follows the rules, but the platform has no public profile page by username. Discord is the one case here: try the name in User Settings → My Account → Username.
- **Not allowed**: the name breaks a rule, and the row says which one first, such as "Too short" or "Only letters, numbers and underscores are allowed."

The summary line counts how many of the nine platforms the name fits, which is a quick way to compare two candidates.

### Reading the profile links
A profile that opens means the name is taken on that platform. A page saying the account doesn't exist usually means the name is free, but not always (more on that below). Treat a missing profile as "worth trying," then confirm on the sign-up or settings screen.

### Nothing leaves your browser
The checks run on your device. The names you type aren't sent to us or stored; the profile links are ordinary links to each platform.

## Username rules on each platform
These are the rules the checker tests. If a name is made only of numbers and symbols, the checker also suggests adding at least one letter: that's not a platform rule, just advice, because such names are hard to find and remember.

| Platform | Length | Allowed characters | Other rules | How to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram | 1–30 | Letters, numbers, periods, underscores | Can't start or end with a period; no two periods in a row | instagram.com/name, then Edit profile |
| TikTok | 2–24 | Letters, numbers, underscores, periods | Can't end with a period | tiktok.com/@name, then Edit profile |
| X | 4–15 | Letters, numbers, underscores | None beyond length and characters | x.com/name, then Settings |
| YouTube | 3–30 | Letters (including non-Latin), numbers, underscores, hyphens, periods, middle dots | None beyond length and characters | youtube.com/@name, then YouTube Studio |
| Twitch | 4–25 | Letters, numbers, underscores | Can't start with an underscore | twitch.tv/name, then sign-up or Settings |
| Discord | 2–32 | Lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, periods | No two periods in a row; capitals become lowercase | No public URL: try it in User Settings |
| Roblox | 3–20 | Letters, numbers, one underscore | The underscore can't be first or last | Roblox user search, then the sign-up form |
| Telegram | 5–32 | Letters, numbers, underscores | Must start with a letter; can't end with an underscore | t.me/name, then Settings → Username |
| Reddit | 3–20 | Letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens | None beyond length and characters | reddit.com/user/name, then sign-up |

Platforms change their rules from time to time, so treat this as the state at the time of writing. ## Why no tool can guarantee a username is available
Any site that promises to tell you a username is definitely free is guessing. None of these platforms offers a public availability check, so every username search tool, including this one, is working from the outside.

### Hidden accounts still hold names
Deactivated, suspended and banned accounts, and some restricted ones, can keep their usernames. Their profile URL may show "this account doesn't exist" even though the name is reserved.

### Reserved and blocked names
Platforms hold back some names, such as trademarks, official-sounding names and words they don't allow, without listing them publicly. A name can follow every format rule and still be refused.

### Recently changed names
When someone changes their username, the old one isn't always released straight away. A name that was in use last month can look free and still be unavailable for a while.

### The sign-up screen has the final word
The only definitive answer comes from the platform itself: the sign-up form for a new account, or the username field in settings for an existing one. Use this checker to narrow the list to names that are valid and look unused, then try your favorite there.

## How to pick consistent social media handles
Using the same handle everywhere makes you easier to find, tag and recommend. People who follow you on one app can search the same name on another and know it's you.

### Design for the strictest platform
The tightest limits decide what works everywhere. X allows only 15 characters, Telegram needs at least 5 and a letter first, and X, Twitch, Roblox, Telegram and Reddit don't accept periods. A name of 5 to 15 characters that starts with a letter and uses only letters, numbers and at most one underscore in the middle fits all nine platforms.

### Skip periods and doubled symbols
"golden.hour" works on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Discord but fails on X, Twitch, Roblox, Telegram and Reddit. "golden_hour" works on all nine. If you need a separator, a single underscore between words is the safest choice.

### Have a fallback pattern ready
If your first choice is taken on one or two platforms, use the same modifier on every platform rather than a different one on each. Adding "hq," "studio," "co" or your city ("goldenhourhq" everywhere) keeps your social handles recognizable. Changing one letter on just one platform tends to confuse people.

### Check the full set before you commit
Run your shortlist through the checker, open the profile links for each platform that fits, then claim the name on the platforms you care about most first. If you're short on ideas, the [name generator](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/name-generator) gives you a list to test.

## Frequently asked questions
### How do I check username availability on every platform at once?
Type the name into the checker above. It tests the rules for nine platforms and links to each profile, so you can see where the name is valid and where an account already exists. Confirm on each platform's sign-up or settings screen, because that's the only definitive check.

### How can I tell if a username exists?
Open the profile link for that platform. If a profile loads, the username exists and is taken. If you see a "doesn't exist" page, there's probably no active public account with that name, but a deactivated or hidden account may still hold it.

### Is there a best username search engine?
No search engine can see every account, because hidden, banned and reserved accounts aren't public. The most useful approach is a social media username checker that tests the rules and links straight to each profile, followed by trying the name in the app. Be wary of any tool that claims a guaranteed result.

### Can I use this as a nickname checker for games?
Yes, for the platforms it covers. Roblox, Twitch and Discord are included, so you can test a gaming nickname against their rules in one go. For Roblox the link opens the user search, where an exact match means the name is taken.

### Why does a name fit the rules but get rejected when I sign up?
The platform may have reserved it, a hidden or deactivated account may hold it, or it may break a rule the platform doesn't publish. The checker only tests the published format rules.

### Does the checker store the names I type?
No. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or saved.
