## X at a glance

| What | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Post text | Up to 280 characters, counted the way X counts them |
| Media | Up to 4 images, a GIF, or a video |
| Account | Your X account, connected with X’s own sign-in |

## What you can schedule on X
Schedule For You publishes posts and threads to X (formerly Twitter). Each post can include text plus one kind of media.

### Text posts
Up to 280 characters. X weights some characters differently: links count as 23 however long they are, and most emoji count as 2. The composer checks your X version against the limit as you type, so you find out it's too long before you schedule it, not when it fails.

### Images
Attach up to 4 images to a post. Four images work well for product shots, event photos or a short step-by-step.

### A GIF or a video
Attach a single GIF or a single video instead of images. X treats each of these as the only media item on the post.

## How it works
1. **Connect X.** Open the Accounts screen, choose X and authorize Schedule For You. Repeat for each account you manage.
2. **Write the post.** Start from your main idea. If it's going to several networks, select them all now.
3. **Tailor the X version.** This is where most of the work happens on X. Your LinkedIn version can run to a few paragraphs; on the X tab, cut it to one sharp sentence and a link. Edits on the X tab don't touch the other versions.
4. **Pick a time or add it to the queue.** Set an exact time for anything tied to a moment, like a launch or a live event. Add everything else to the queue to fill your next time slot.

## Features that help on X
X moves fast, and the people who do well on it usually post more often than on other networks. That puts pressure on planning.

### Time slots and a queue
Set several daily time slots and add posts to the queue as ideas come. The queue spaces them out for you, so you don't publish five posts in an hour and then nothing for two days.

### Evergreen and repeating posts
Your best explainers, resources and signup links are worth sharing again. Mark them as evergreen to recycle them, or set a repeating post for weekly prompts and reminders.

### RSS auto-post
Connect a blog or newsletter RSS feed and new items can be posted to X automatically, so you don't have to copy every link by hand.

### API, webhooks and MCP
If you already automate, use the REST API, webhooks for Zapier, Make or n8n, or the MCP server to create and schedule posts from your own tools.

## Tips for X
- **Write the X version last.** Draft the longer platforms first, then distill. It's easier to cut than to expand. Our guide to [customizing captions for each platform](https://scheduleforyou.com/blog/customize-captions-for-each-platform) has more on this.
- **Budget the link.** A URL always costs 23 characters, so add it before you trim rather than after.
- **Space out related posts.** If an idea needs several posts, schedule them as separate posts across the day so each one stands on its own.
- **Don't hide the message in an image.** Keep the important words in the post text rather than only inside a graphic, so people using screen readers and search still get the point.

## Frequently asked questions
### Can I schedule threads on X?
Yes. Put a line with only `---` between the parts and Schedule For You publishes them as a thread, each part as a reply to the one before. Each part must fit 280 characters, and media goes on the first post. Up to 25 parts.

### Does the 280 limit include links and emoji?
Yes. Every link counts as 23 characters and most emoji count as 2. The composer checks the X version against the 280 limit as you write, and you can paste a draft into the free [X character counter](https://scheduleforyou.com/tools/x-character-counter) to see the weighted count in detail.

### How many images can I attach?
Up to 4 images per post, or one GIF, or one video.

### Can I manage more than one X account?
Yes. Connect as many as your plan allows: 15 accounts on Solo and 100 on Studio, shared across all platforms in a workspace. Each workspace has its own plan, so use one workspace for brands you want on the same plan.

### What if X disconnects my account?
If access is revoked, for example after a password change, your scheduled post can't publish. Schedule For You sends a failed-post alert and prompts you to reconnect from the Accounts screen and retry.

### Can I post the same thing to Bluesky and Threads?
Yes. Select all three when you write the post. Bluesky allows 300 characters and Threads 500, so you can keep a little more context in those versions than on X.

## Keep your X account active without living in the app
